      Convent of St. Thekla - Orthodox convent, located in the village of Maaloula in Syria. The monastery is known as the last abode of Saint Thekla, as well as a storage place for its power. Christian monastery revered as a holy place and an object of pilgrimage. 

      The monastery was founded in the fourth century - that's when the rock was carved cave, where the relics of Saint Thekla. Later, near the cave church was built with stone throne, whose altar was carved directly into the rock. Near the temple has a holy source of water which is believed to have the ability to heal illness. Much later, in the XVIII century, the monastery has expanded significantly, many of the buildings were built - the new church, monastic cells and a school for girls.

      Near the monastery is a picturesque gorge, which is also associated with the legend of St. Thecla - allegedly fleeing from enemies, she prayed, and the mountain split in two, opening the way to salvation.

      Convent of St. Thekla - one of the most amazing places in the whole of Syria. Here flavor of the old and a special atmosphere. And in the village of Maalula, where the monastery, the inhabitants still speak Aramaic - the language of Jesus Christ. All this gives a special flavor to the monastery, which attracts Christian pilgrims from around the world.
